Gladly Yours

Here is a painting that I did in Painter.  Yes, I actually did a painting in Corel Painter.  When I last posted a painting from Painter, I was probably struggling with Painter 2016 in all of its bugginess.  It had the absolute worst brush lag you could imagine.  Someone from Painter was allegedly helping me.  I use that word lightly because after he found out I had a very expensive computer and all my software was up-to-date, he just quit speaking to me.  He disappeared!  This is after asking me to be a beta tester.  He just fell into a black hole.  His name is Steve.  Where are you Steve?  Where all Corel Painter people go when they have to admit that it is their application that is at fault.

In some black hole.  I hope it smells bad there.

Anyway, Corel released version 2017, guess what the brush lag miraculously disappeared!  Wow!  So, it wasn’t my computer, it wasn’t my brushes, it wasn’t my fault.  Now, eight months later (are you kidding me, they can’t even wait one year for an update????) they released 2018.  That was in August.  In August of 2017, they release a version called Painter 2018.  They are getting ridiculous.  But, of course, I purchased it.  There were some updates I wanted.

You can check out the class here.  Skip’s class was awesome.  I think you can still sign up for it, I’m not sure.  I’ve taken his Intro Class to Painter since Painter released X3, the 2013 version. This was by far the very best class ever.  We had a blast in class and learned so much.  Skip is an awesome teacher and spends endless time preparing videos and answering questions.

This painting is a multi-media one.  I used watercolors.  I never use watercolors in Painter, but I broke that rule for class and did.  Then I also used acrylics.  I had a lot of fun.  This is an abstract that is unlike most of my abstracts.  I used the watercolors to get the paper textures in the various areas.  It is an interesting technique that I plan to use again.

Wandering

This is a watercolor I did in Painter.  I usually do most of my watercolors in an app called Rebelle.  Rebelle acts more like real watercolors.  But the watercolor brushes in Painter are varied and interesting.  This watercolor was done mostly with brushes from Skip Allen, an absolute master of watercolor brushes in Painter.  You can check out his blog here.  He has many great brushes you can download and use with Painter.  He also has tons of videos on how to use Painter.

This is a watercolor I did in Painter 2016.

I started this painting by working with a particle brush to make the dark lines.  Then I filled in with watercolors for the rest of the painting.

At the end, I added some collage elements with design paper.

This is a completely different type of painting for me.  It was a lot of fun to do.  I may do a few more like this.

I started this painting in Rebelle, a watercolor app.  Then I brought it into Painter and finished it with acrylic-like paints.

I am calling this the Outsider.  The little bird on the left wants to join the two birds on the right.  But, they are busy gossiping.  He feels very left out.  The two birds will let him join them as soon as they finish their gossip.

I think there’s a lesson here.  Don’t gossip.  People know they shouldn’t.  These two birds that are gossiping are embarrassed to have the little bird join them because they know gossiping is wrong.  Really, it’s none of your business.

Driving Home Ain’t What It Used To Be

This is another painting using impasto brushes.

As usual, I started this painting in Rebelle, using watercolors and inks to make lots of drips and other interesting shapes and lines.

Then, I took it into Painter and added the impasto brushes.

I’m thinking of changing my blog.  I started this blog because I was very ill with what was diagnosed at Fibromyalgia and Lyme disease.  Well, it turns out I just had Lyme disease.  I’m feeling better after four long years of treatment for the Lyme.

I am out and about walking and doing other things I haven’t been able to do in almost 20 years.  I want my blog to be a celebration of the new me.  I’m going to keep the name of my blog, but change the description.

It turns out that I also have atypical migraines.  I have had a bad bout with that.  But, hooray, there’s a medication for that.  I’m on it, and that is resolving.  I’ve had that since 1983.  So, things are really looking up in my life.  I hope your life is going well.

A Burst of Thunder

I started this painting in Rebelle, like I do all my paintings any more.

I used watercolors and inks and lots of drips.

Then, I brought it into Painter and finished it with acrylic brushes using the new dynamic speckle bristle brushes.

I’m not entirely happy with this piece.  I have been very frustrated with my abstracts lately.  That must mean I’m about to change how I paint.  I don’t know what’s coming, but I’m excited.

I started painting in September 2012.  To be honest, I wasn’t very good.  I have worked hard at my art and painting, and I know I have improved.  I just want to get really good now!

Many artists find a style and stick with it.  I don’t want to do that.  I want to keep what is mine and unique, but I want to grow as an artist.

I got a video from an artist by the name of John Salminen.  He is drop-dead fantastic.  Check him out John Salminen.

To me, his abstracts look like realistic paintings and his realistic work looks like abstracts.  He does cityscapes and is fantastic at them.  I hope his video will be as inspiring as his paintings are.
