A Little Shell

I took this photo with my iPhone 11Pro with a Sandmarc macro lens. I believe it was my Sandmarc. It may have been my new Olloclip macro lens. I got both in December.

I’ve always used the Olloclip lens but got frustrated at having to get a new lens and cover every year when Apple changed the configuration of the iPhone. So I switched to the Sandmarc lens. You keep the lens and just buy a new cover each time Apple changes the iPhone. Well, now Olloclip has done the same thing, finally.

I prefer Olloclip because there are three lenses, 7x, 14x and 21x. So now I have four macro lenses. The Sandmarc lens is about 10x or so.

Is This a Spurge?

Seattle has had unseasonably warm weather. In fact, after breaking cold records, we now are breaking warm records. Climate change? I don’t know. There is still a tiny bit of snow on the ground on our street.

This plant I believe, is called a Spurge. It’s hard to tell because there are so many and they all look different. Believe it or not, this is not its flower. It has so many incarnations and each one is incredibly beautiful.

Enjoy your day.

Here Comes Spring

After lunch the other day, Warren and I went for a walk in a local neighborhood. As we walked along, I spotted this little bunch of croci.

Most of the croci had been flattened by the ten inches of snow we had earlier this winter. Seattle is not used to getting that much snow.

I first put these in Tangledfx with one of my presets. Then I put it in Lightroom and used the color squares (I don’t know what they are called) to add in just a touch of blue.

I am so sick of snow and absolutely ready for Spring and flowers and warmer weather!

Enjoy your day.

Maui Sunrise

My husband went hiking this morning and I got up early so I could see the sunrise. It was gorgeous. I’m go glad I bothered to get my rear end out of bed.

We have been on Maui for a month and we go home next week. I’ve seen and photographed lots of sunsets. But a sunrise is different. It is more delicate. It comes in so subtly. No matter how you edit it, it stays very soft and simple.

Sunrise is a great time of day. No one is out and about. You can sit and drink your coffee and no one bothers you. It was just me, Maalaea Bay and this beautiful sunrise coming up over Haleakala volcano.

To say I don’t want to go home next week is putting it mildly.

More Shells

These are more shells I did. I used an app called Decim8 after I shot the shells.

Decim8 takes pixels and mixes them up and down and sideways. It is known as a Glitch app. There are several Glitch apps out there for iPad and iPhone but this is one of the better ones. Unfortunately this one really only works on the iPhone.

It is slow and crashes on both generations of the iPad.

I have a first generation iPad and it really gives me fits.

One thing that helps is to reboot the iPad prior to using the app.

The good news is Apple is coming out with new iPad Pros in June.

Shells From the Hurricane

In the 80’s some time I was in a hurricane while on Maui. It completely destroyed Kaui and we only had very high winds on Maui.

The next morning the beach was covered thick with shells. What a find! My mother and I grabbed up all the shells we could get our hands on.

I doubt I would do this today. These shells are needed by sea creatures for homes. They are part of the sea’s eco system. But I didn’t understand that when I was younger. That you go to the ocean you look, you enjoy, but you leave it there.

Today, we have digital cameras to capture the beauty of places we visit. There is no need to collect things and bring them home.

I enhanced this photo in Enlight, then TangledFX.

Stretch As Far As You Can

This is another edit I did in iColorama. The beautiful dancer is from Pixabay. There are roses and trees in here that I shot. The purple flowers are from freepng.

I’m having a lot of fun in iColorama. My skills are building on themselves.

On Instagram, this piece has been my most popular piece so far.

But I have this nagging question. Is it my work or the work of this dancer that is touching people? I really believe it is mostly the latter. She is on her bare feet and on her toes in a perfect stance. Yes, I did good edit work. But without her, the piece would be lacking.

I am very critical of people on Instagram who get beautiful photos from Unsplash and put them together in an edit and then somehow think they have done something marvelous. When in fact, it is the photography that is carrying the edit.

It is a tight line we walk when we use other people’s work in our edits.

I’m not entirely comfortable with this. I’m new to doing this and I don’t know how much longer I’ll be doing this.

I’m going to have to think this over.

Due to health constraints, I don’t get out much to photograph. So I’m stuck using copyright free photos by others.

Anyway, this edit is about stretching yourself as far as you can. Because you never know what you’ll find when you do.

If you look close, you’ll see our dancer has found a beautiful bird that is bringing her happiness and a smile!

Have a great day!
